inping vs HetrixTools: the comparison

HetrixTools offers uptime, agent and blacklists very cheaply; inping adds vulnerabilities, page changes, EU servers and a DPA. Compared with sources.

Last checked on

HetrixTools is hard to beat for plain uptime and server metrics on a small budget, because even the free plan includes 15 monitors with 15 server agents; inping is the choice if vulnerabilities, page changes and a DPA with operation on servers in the EU count.

Why HetrixTools is the closest relative

Both tools measure from outside and from inside: external checks plus an agent on Linux, Windows and macOS. HetrixTools also names blacklist monitoring for IPs and domains, and RAID and drive health. inping offers neither.

HetrixTools is broader in check types: ping, any port, SMTP and heartbeats for cron jobs. inping checks uptime over HTTP(S) only.

What is missing from the public information?

According to its terms, the operator is HetrixTools, Inc. We found no address, server location or DPA on the pages we checked. That does not mean they do not exist: ask the vendor directly if you have personal data processed on your behalf.

At inping, the operator, EU servers and DPA can be read publicly. That does not replace your own assessment, but it saves asking.

Where do the features part ways?

inping reports vulnerabilities from lock files and host packages, compares page content as a text diff and accepts logs and errors through the Sentry SDKs. HetrixTools names nothing for these three areas on the pages we checked.
