inping vs Better Stack: the comparison

Better Stack combines uptime, on-call and telemetry; inping combines uptime, agent, vulnerabilities and page changes. Compared with sources and limits.

Last checked on

Better Stack is the stronger choice for teams with an on-call rota, phone alerts and large volumes of logs and metrics; inping fits if the same interface should also report vulnerabilities in packages and changes to pages, and a fixed team price is what you want.

Two pricing models that are hard to compare directly

Better Stack bills per responder: US$34 a month, or US$29 when paying annually, plus telemetry depending on bundle and region. inping charges one price for the whole team, limited by projects, URLs and agents.

Better Stack’s model gets more expensive with the number of on-call people and the data volume, inping’s with the number of projects. So calculate with your own numbers, not with the entry price.

What does Better Stack offer beyond inping?

According to Better Stack, unlimited phone and SMS alerts, on-call schedules and escalations come with the responder licence. inping alerts by email and signed webhook and has no on-call schedules. If you have to get someone out of bed at night, you will find the ready-made tool there.

For telemetry, Better Stack offers bundles for logs, traces and metrics and, optionally, storage in your own bucket. inping accepts logs, errors and traces through the Sentry SDKs and keeps them for 7 to 90 days depending on the plan.

What does inping add?

inping’s agent reads lock files and the host’s package system and reports known vulnerabilities and runtimes out of support. Runners deliver text diffs of changed pages. Better Stack names neither on the pages we checked.

When is Better Stack the better choice?

  • You run an on-call service and need phone calls, on-call schedules and escalations.
  • You process large volumes of logs and metrics and want PromQL or your own storage buckets.
  • You need checks of whole flows in the browser (Playwright).
  • Enterprise requirements such as SSO and SCIM are on your list.

When does inping fit better?

  • Vulnerabilities in packages and runtimes are part of monitoring for you.
  • You want to be told about changes to content and about new pages.
  • You are looking for a fixed price for the whole team instead of billing per responder.
  • Agencies: client contacts per project with double opt-in, and a status page on the client’s domain.

Frequently asked questions

Does Better Stack store data in the EU?

According to its own security page, data is stored in EU regions by default, in data centres with DIN ISO/IEC 27001. We found no company seat on the pages we checked.

Does inping have phone alerts like Better Stack?

No. inping notifies by email and signed webhook. You can connect a service of your own through the webhook, but that is not an on-call schedule.
